The Revitalization administered at Clinique La Prairie (CLP) since 1931 takes its origins from the cell therapy methods created by Dr Paul Niehans. His methods were based on the extraction of various organs from sheep and from sheep fetuses, and injecting patients with their tissue cells.

An international Scientific Advisory Board, the concept of the owner, Armin Mattli, was created in 1987, and research rapidly focused on studying the biological mechanisms of cells derived from the fetal liver tissue of sheep. Following intensive research resulting in scientific and technological progress, the Scientific Advisory Board was successful in developing a cell extract – a refined and purified formula containing only biologically active substances. Since 1992, this has become a standardized and lyophilized liver extract, called ‘CLP Extract’. It is administered to patients practicing the Revitalization program.

The CLP Extract has now been scientifically validated: key factors have been identified by the Scientific Advisory Board and obtained protection for the future, by acquiring a patent in 2006 (European Patent Office, Munich).

Thanks to these new scientific findings, it has been demonstrated that a powerful bio-stimulating factor could be administered in a pure form, the result being the lipid A injections available since 2007. In parallel, further research has made it possible to establish the New CLP Extract, which since then has been administered orally. While it contains the same principle factors present in ovine fetus liver, it is now obtained from lamb liver.

Throughout its long history, Clinique La Prairie has remained in control of the entire CLP Extract production process: from its own farm, where sheep are reared, to the preparation of the Extract in its state-of-the-art laboratory, and finally to its administration, exclusively to the patients, staying at the clinic.
