ECOLE: the school provides a privileged setting for the transmission of knowledge. NOUVELLE: infused with the spirit of innovation and anticipation.
Education: The quality of education is guaranteed by respecting the ideas of its founder, Edouard Vittoz, " aim to place value on individuality, by interpreting educational programs with flexibility and promoting joyful collaboration." The quality of teaching is assured through highly qualified, supportive teachers, committed to establishing a relationship of trust with their students. The quality of the environment is enhanced by the school's geographical location, overlooking the city of Lausanne and set amongst spacious grounds including numerous sporting facilities. International vocation: 'a passport to the future' ENSR / IBSL fosters global understanding and multilingualism, through the early introduction of English, followed by German, as well as welcoming non French-speaking students.
At the end of the 19th century, the Swiss educator Adolphe Ferrière, concerned with the development of the whole child, envisaged a different kind of school – one that was based on respect for the individual and allowed each student to realise his academic and personal potential. Children from the age of three are accepted for the morning or full-day programmes. The Extended Day Programme offers various early learning activities after lunch and after the classes in the afternoon in order to encourage the children to express themselves. At this level, teaching is highly personalised and parents receive a detailed progress report every two months. Foreign-language learning intensifies: from 1st grade, English is taught four times per week. Up to the age of 14, the children develop a solid foundation of knowledge through the core syllabus of French, mathematics, history, geography, science, sports, and art. To build on what the children have learned in primary school and encourage a rich and varied vocabulary, English is taught by native speakers. The Senior School programme comprises two cycles: orientation (9th and 10th grades), during which students choose their diploma option for the examination preparation cycle (11th and 12th grades). The International Boarding School welcomes students from 12 years of age. In partnership with “Les Ecureuils” a boarding school in the mountains, we can also accept younger children. Sport is a lifetime activity and therefore of key-importance in the life of our students. It is common sense that being involved in sports activities on a regular basis has a positive impact on the quality of life. At Ecole Nouvelle / International Boarding School of Lausanne Sports Department, we are convinced of the fact ...
