Brillantmont International Boarding School

Founded in 1882, Brillantmont International School houses some 100 boarding boys and girls and about 50 day students. All these people live and study on the campus, which is located in a large park in the centre of Lausanne, Switzerland.

Brillantmont International School is situated in the centre of Lausanne, a five-minute walk from the shops. Brillantmont is situated in 13,000 m2 of parkland overlooking the lake and offers a breathtaking view of the Alps. The property includes seven buildings, a tennis court and a multipurpose court in the centre of a residential area. Comfort and charm are the characteristics of this special place.

American Programme
The American Programme prepares students for American colleges and universities.
Courses are offered for students in American Grades 8-12. Brillantmont offers a traditional college preparatory curriculum leading to a High School Diploma. The language of instruction is English.

Brillantmont offers a traditional British Programme of studies.
Courses are offered for students in British Years 9-13. The British Programme prepares students for the International Certificate of Education (Cambridge Board) giving access to all universities in the world.

Language Programme
This programme is designed primarily for students who wish to spend a full year or, one or two terms studying languages. Students follow an intensive course in French or English. They study their chosen language for 18 hours a week. On demand, the programme can be personalised.

Winter Course
This programme is designed primarily for students who have a long vacation in January and February. We offer a course of intensive French or intensive English, numerous extra-curricular activities and the opportunity to learn and practise skiing or snowboarding in the Swiss Alps.

Summer Course
During the months of July and August we organise a summer course for boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 17. This summer school is devoted to an intensive French or English course, complemented by a programme of sports, excursions and cultural activities

Our day students represent approximately 40% of the total student body. They live with their families mainly in Lausanne and its surrounding area, although some of our day students travel every day from Geneva and Fribourg. Brillantmont collects students at Lausanne station at 8am to bring them to school, if there is sufficient demand.

Day students are an integral part of Brillantmont and we encourage them to participate in all the extra-curricular activities and excursions offered by the school. A cafeteria / recreational area has been set aside on the school campus so that both day and boarding students can meet in between classes and during the breaks to chat amongst each other, watch videos and even play billiards.

Lausanne is a very rich cultural centre where a broad network of Physical and cultural education plays a major part in the life of our school. The natural setting and sporting facilities of Brillantmont are ideal for tennis, basketball, volleyball, football and hockey. Teachers often take their students into the nearby forests where they can enjoy cycling, jogging and cross-country skiing.

On the shores of the lake there are also opportunities for windsurfing, swimming and a range of other water-based activities. Within the school, around a dozen activities are offered to students, including music, ballet, theatre, photography, as well as information technology, cookery, art, film and media.
