At the end of this year students must determine which of the following three branches they will follow in 1ère and Terminale: Literature (L), Science (S) or Economics and Social Sciences (ES) Required subjects:
Supplementary subjects on offer: Music and study skills. Première and Terminale classes Première and Terminale classes follow a two year programme, with the majority of students who sign up for one of the three academic routes continuing through to the Baccalaureate in that branch. There are however opportunities to move from one branch to another. In the Première class students have a choice between English, German, Spanish and Italian in each of the two required foreign language blocks; the same language may not be studied in each block. In the ES programme (see below) Economic and Social Sciences are taught, but not Physics and Chemistry. A special topic which focuses on an in-depth study in one area of specialization. One project in Première. The purpose of this is to promote independent study and research habits which draw together elements from several disciplines and result in a tangible end product. It is compulsory and is counted as part of the preliminary Baccalaureate exams. Only results over 10 are taken into account, and carry a weighting of 2. One or two options. Students may also opt for classes in Art and Music.
