Literary L programme

The L (Literary) programme is designed for students with a particular interest in literature, philosophy and languages.

Most students who complete the L programme will go on to university studies in a range of disciplines such as Philosophy, Literature, Languages, History, Psychology and Sociology. Others may opt for preparatory courses in further literature, tourism, journalism and other such professional branches.

At the end of Première students have preliminary Baccalaureate examinations in French (written and oral), Science (Life Sciences, Physics and Chemistry), Mathematics and Computer Studies, along with project work.

Scientific S Programme

The S (Scientific) programme is designed for students with a particular interest in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences.

Most students who complete the S programme will go on to university studies in a range of disciplines such as Mathematics, Sciences, Technology and Medicine. Others may opt for preparatory courses leading to Business and Commercial Schools, Engineering Schools and Institutes of Political Science.

At the end of Première students have preliminary Baccalaureate examinations in French (written and oral), along with project work.

Economic and Social ES programme

The ES (Economic and Social) programme is designed for students with a particular interest in Economic and Social Sciences, Mathematics, History and Geography.

Most students who complete the ES programme will go on to university studies in a range of disciplines such as History, Geography, Sociology, Economics, Business Studies, Law and Administration. Others may opt for preparatory courses leading to Business and Commercial Schools and Institutes of Political Science.

At the end of Première students have preliminary Baccalaureate examinations in French (written and oral) and Life Sciences, along with project work.

Award of French Baccalaureate

The French Baccalaureate is awarded on the basis of external examinations which take place in June at the end of the Première class (preliminary exams) and at the end of the Terminale class. Each subject is given a weighting. A pass is awarded for an average of 10 and above.

In addition, there are three higher levels of award (« mentions »):

“Assez bien” – an average of 12/20 and above

“Bien” – an average of 14/20 and above

“Très Bien” – an average of 16/20 and above

Students with an average between 8 and 10 are entitled to take an oral exam designed to give them a chance to demonstrate their knowledge and secure a pass. The student must choose two subjects. If these marks are higher than the written marks, they are substituted, and the overall score is recalculated. A new average of 10 means that the Baccalaureate can be awarded.

The French Baccalaureate is universally recognised by universities; however, some require « mentions » or minimum grades.
