DIPLOMA AND HIGHER DIPLOMA IN INTERNATIONAL HOTEL MANAGEMENT
Programme Description
For High School Graduates, HIM offers a Diploma or Higher Diploma Programme in International Hotel Management. After successful completion of the Higher Diploma, students can progress into the BA Degree and then the MA Degree programme.
The programmes centre around the three key management areas which are essential in the hospitality industry:
- Human Resource Management
- Finance
- Marketing
HIM programmes also include some practical subjects such as Food and Beverage Service and Front Office. Since our students are prepared and trained for high-end management positions, we do not, like similar Swiss institutions, include a food production practical (kitchen) or housekeeping practical. These subjects are covered in theoretical lessons in the classroom including many demonstrations.
Programme Structure
Year 1 and 2 include a 5 month academic term followed by 4 - 6 month paid internship. This combination allows both the theoretical and practical aspects of hospitality management to be developed.

| Students in the 3 year programme are awarded three internationally recognised qualifications: |
- The Swiss Higher Diploma in International Hotel Management
- The American Hotel and Lodging Association (AH&LA) Diploma
in Hotel Management (optional)
- The American Dual BBA Degree
Three different qualifications combined with two work reference letters from completed internships in Swiss or international restaurants/hotels give HIM students a unique competitive advantage when applying for a job in the hospitality industry. |
Progression
After successful completion of the Higher Diploma Programme, students can progress to the 5 month BBA Degree top-up programme in our BA centre in Montreux (Miramonte) and then suitably qualified graduates can progress to the Masters in Business Administration.
